profiction
common emoji combo(s) used by one: ππ
q: what is the definition for profiction?a: profiction is when someone doesn't care about someones fictional ships or biases and believes fiction doesn't effect reality [source]q: is profiction the same as proshipping and/or comshipping?a: no, they are all very different from each other. you can look into the other definitons for that information.
proshipping
common emoji combo(s) used by one: ππ/ππ° + many more
q: what is the definition for proshipping?a: "used to describe someone who respects others for their fictional pairings irregardless of their own feeling towards said pairing.","Somebody who doesn't harass others over their favoured character pairings or if they enjoy darker fiction. They're of the mindset that you can enjoy something without endorsing it in real life."
[source]q: you cant support dark fiction (proshipping in this case) because fiction can effect reality.a: while fiction can effect reality, people understand that you can seperate and tell the difference between fiction and reality. it's like saying, for example, you read a fanfiction with lots of gore and violence. you know this isn't real and its just fiction, so you won't do these things in real life. same for other kinds of dark fiction, like abusive tropes. you know this isn't real and you simply won't do it in real life, because its immoral.q: there are many crimes that had fiction effect realitya: yes, but in the wrong reasoning. those people were very mentally unstable and were insane and they didn't have the correct help in order for them not to commit these terrible acts. a popular anti argument is the slender man stabbing, "On May 31, 2014, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, United States, two 12-year-old girls, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, lured their friend Payton Leutner into a forest and stabbed her 19 times in an attempt to appease the fictional character Slender Man." this screenshot of the wikipedia page for the slender man stabbing explains the mental state of one of the girls in it all before the stabbing, this is pretty self explanitory. click/press to see the full image.
this argument can be simply stopped by going on wikipedia for the information, crazy right? [source]q: children can be easily influenced by these things and you should stop doing these things so then children don't get influenced into thinking this is okay.a: we aren't in charge of peoples children, there parents are. its the parents fault that the child isn't having a safe browsing internet experience and is stumbling upon that sort of content. its like saying people should stop banning violent games and porn content just because the kids might see it, its a dumb argument. plus, for most content that is dark fiction people put warnings for others that can be easily triggered by that sort of stuff, thats why ao3 has tags for a reason, use them. and in conclusion, we aren't your childrens parents, their own parents are.q: dark fiction (proshipping in this case) is a harmful coping mechanism and shouldn't be used as one because it can influence someone negativley.a: no, dark fiction is actually a good way to cope with past trauma regarding sa, intrusive thoughts, mental illness, etc.)
in an article from clifonline.org, it states that writing and even reading can help with trauma, here is the source if you wan to read the article for yourself. [x]. also, people don't have to be dealing with something tough just because they're an enjoyer of dark fiction, they can also do it for fun! i enjoy dark fiction half for fun and half for coping with sa, grooming, and intrusive thoughts. but, not all coping mechanisms work for everyone, for me and many others dark fiction helps us cope, but for some it doesn't. its like saying just because you think baking can't help you deal with trauma, that means no one can use baking to help them with trauma. as in the article, writing and reading can help deal with trauma, stress, etc.)
